The Impact of Arts and Culture on Economic Activity

Recent data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) sheds light on the significant economic contribution of arts and culture. In 2021 alone, arts and culture activities generated an impressive $1.02 trillion in economic activity. While there was a 4.8% decrease in activity during 2020, we are delighted to report a promising 13.7% increase in 2021. Compared to the GDP, we can see that arts and culture activity accounted for 4.4% of the total GDP in 2021 ($1.02 trillion).  These figures demonstrate the resilience and vibrancy of the arts sector, even in challenging times. It is crucial to recognize the substantial economic impact of the arts and culture sector, and the necessity of supporting its growth and sustainability.
